We saw it in London in December and loved it. My husband thought it was one of the best things he had seen in some time. (We visit NY at least annually and see a lot in SF). We have tix for it in NY in May (the London trip was last minute after already buying NY).
At the Friday performance we saw in London, the crowd was certainly spirited and appreciative, but I really didn't hear any screaming except in the final "Megamix" which sort of encourages it. The show is more than the sum of its parts. When I heard the recording after buying NY tickets, I thought "eeew this is Spice Girls do Henry VIII!" but by the second listen, all the hooks hooked me. And the lyrics are delightfully clever. Yeah, the near rhymes might irritate some to distraction, and the concert/reality competition sounds like a lame conceit - BUT the thing is, it works! |
