| Geffen and LC negotiated a deal with the Avery Fisher Family/Foundation, giving them unenumerated considerations and $15 million, in order to rename the Hall. Geffen's contribution to LC for the Hall and naming was $100 million. Koch gave $100 million to LC in 2008 for the renaming of NY State Theatre. Not sure what his contract stipulates. Knowing that Koch family are not 'play nice' people, I'd assume one would have to refund the $100 million to change the name, And maybe that wouldn't do it either, Lets keep in mind that the LC Board had no ethical light bulb moments in 2008. They knew full well who they were taking money for. And embraced the $ and name change. Because arts boards are made of zillionaires. ANd zillionaires just don't tend to be right thinking progressives. | |

| According to Wikipedia, the David Koch family has the rights for theater name for 50 years in exchange for their 100 million for renovation and operating funding. After 50 years, they have right of first refusal for any renaming. | |

| Is there a reason you're suggesting for renaming it, other than politics? I think it sets a dangerous precendent, similar to the righteous outrage that would occur if the avenues in Harlem were to revert to 6th, 7th and 8th Avenues rather than their named streets. | |

| There are lots more dangerous precedents being broken in the news far more chilling than this. But like the poster above called it, I prefer to think of this theater where I attended many NY City Opera performances, as the NY State Theater. | |
