| Maybe this has already been answered, but looking over the Times coverage of the invitation-only event I'm curious if Bette Midler and Joel Grey were there. Or there and not performing? | |

| I assume it is against Equity's rules to have this event filmed because the performers would not received payment/residuals/royalties. Am I right? I would be exciting for those of us who were not invited to see the wonderful event. | |

| Equity has nothing to do with it. The reason it was not filmed is that it was a memorial, not an entertainment. | |

| As I noted in an earlier thread on this topic, memorials are sometimes filmed. The Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center (where I work) holds videos of memorial tributes to Bob Fosse, Irving Berlin, Helen Hayes, Wendy Wasserstein, Kim Stanley, and a number of other theater luminaries. These videos can be viewed in the TOFT screening room. However, the Jerry Herman memorial was not taped, or at least, not taped for TOFT. | |

| Those that were not invited to the Memorial all were let in before it started. An orderly line of fans were directed to the mezzanine. | |

| It is unlikely any of the performers were under an equity contract for that day. It is more problematic from a music licensing angle. Such recordings of other memorials have been made, but not usually made public. |

| I didn’t see anything in the Times about the memorial. There were stories in Variety and the NY Stage review by Steve Suskin. I didn’t see Midler or Grey in the audience. |

| Bette was not there and Joel Grey was at the Lewis Cullman Memorial at the NYPL. | |
