| ...I would definitely have bought a ticket as I loved the national tour at the Kennedy Center and have always enjoyed the score. But with only four slots to see this coming weekend and so much to see, it seemed too risky. So instead, I'm going to West Side Story (second time); NYCB Swan Lake; Medea, and Mack & Mabel. Speaking of the OBC recording, i haven't heard it in a long time, but I seem to remember it being kind of an inferior-sounding production. True or false? |

| The last time I checked, all remaining shows are sold out except for Friday night, which (at the time) had only 4 seats left. So you should definitely buy tickets ASAP if you want to go! | |

| I saw it yesterday afternoon. I was prepared for it to be more or less like Musicals Tonight, and I am happy to say this is much, much more like a small scale full production, fully staged with a lot of choreography. There's a three piece band - piano, bass, and xylophone/glock, which was a nice touch. I believe they're doing the post-Broadway version of the script (so act I ended with "The Party's On Me" and there was no "Spanglish"). J Savage in the Tommy Tune role really ran away with the show (aided in large part by Caitlin Belcik's choreography). The rest of the show didn't always spark for me, and I'm not sure if that's because the script is a challenge (too many cooks, and a hard-to-sell central relationship) or the leads didn't quite have the comic timing down or (most likely) the matinee audience wasn't giving the energy that a show like this really needs to soar. I'm glad I saw it, and I suspect it will be even better in its second weekend. The house appeared to be sold out, so if you're thinking about going, I won't wait too long to buy tickets. |

| In the first national, Arnaz stopped the show with "The Party's On Me." | |

| It's the thing I remember most about the production (Kennedy Center), after having seen it in NYC (the day after "A Little Night Music," so excuse my relative indifference; plus, I was 20.) The new focus work and that one new song were dynamite. Lucie Arnaz was spectacularly good, and "The Party's on Me," probably just an okay song (think Minnelli at the Winter Garden, singing "I Want a Natural Man," very similar orchestration in fact), was staged by Bennett as a dance number for Gittel and it was a stunner. | |

| Arnaz was/is terrific. She nailed Gittel. I keep thinking how wonderful she'd be in a musical version of THE GINGERBREAD LADY. | |
