was preserved on Ed Sullivan's old show. I'm looking forward to seeing this show next month at Encores and hope we finally get a first-class recording of the entire score (which was not recorded because of a strike at the time). A few of the YouTube reviewers don't like it for being old-fashioned, but this song really is in that kind of style, and Ms. Fabray really sells it.

Great clip. Kurt Weill really wrote a lot of songs that his leading ladies sang sitting in a chair (Mary Martin/That's Him from One Touch of Venus). Yes, Ms. Fabray was an old world performer and it doesn't always register well in today's world, but she had charm and star quality. BTW, I saw her in Mr. President and that aw shucks style was still with her.

S.J. Perelman wrote that they wanted the great fashion designer, Mainbocher, to do Martin’s costumes. He initially wasn’t interested, he’d never done theatrical costumes before. But at a private audition, Martin sat in a chair and sang “That’s Him” to the designer. He said, “I will do this show, if you stage that number just like that, with Mary in a chair.” So they did. Venus had 14 gowns that cost $20,000.

Here's Nanette singing "Green-up Time" from "Love Life" as well as singing and dancing (with Ed Sullivan himself!) to "Papa Won't You Dance With Me", which was the hit song of "High Button Shoes", featured at Encores this past season.
