It's the thing I remember most about the production (Kennedy Center), after having seen it in NYC (the day after "A Little Night Music," so excuse my relative indifference; plus, I was 20.) The new focus work and that one new song were dynamite. Lucie Arnaz was spectacularly good, and "The Party's on Me," probably just an okay song (think Minnelli at the Winter Garden, singing "I Want a Natural Man," very similar orchestration in fact), was staged by Bennett as a dance number for Gittel and it was a stunner.

Arnaz was/is terrific. She nailed Gittel. I keep thinking how wonderful she'd be in a musical version of THE GINGERBREAD LADY.
