Into The Woods-- Licensing
Posted by: GavinLogan1 04:44 pm EST 02/18/20

Does anyone know if the song "Our Little World" is now included in the licensing when presenting Into The Woods?

It's yet another show on my list for next year, but I can't seem to find any info from MTI on whether this song is included. I hope it is-- I love it, and it gives Rapunzel a bit more to do.

Thanks for any insights,

Gavin

Once upon a time (sorry lol) the song came as an optional separate insert, but now it's a definite part of the materials, even though it's still technically optional. (The original transition that does not include the song is also in the materials, so you have your choice.)

Also, the complete version of the "Witch's Lament" has been restored.

Also, for better or worse (and IMO worse), the additions done for the 2002 revival are also included as optional - the 2 Wolves and the 3 Little Pigs, the new lyrics for the middle of "Last Midnight," the trio addition at the end of "On The Steps Of The Palace," the uninterrupted ending of "No One Is Alone," etc. I personally would never want to use them, but they're there.

I've never actually heard these additions, but even reading about them makes them sound superfluous--except for the trio ending of "Palace", which seems intriguing. I guess I'll have to look up the 2002 revival.

Thanks for the help.

I personally don't care much for the new "palace" ending - I feel it's tacked on more than anything else, and I'm not sure that we need such an obvious tie-in with Jack and Red's stories (something I think is already clear without the trio addition, and doesn't really need to be hammered home). I also don't think it's truly satisfying from a musical standpoint. But, you may feel differently. ;-)

It used to be listed as "optional." MTI could tell you for sure but it is in the song list on their site, so I'm guessing they still offer it.

It's listed as one of the songs on MTI's page for licsensing the show, so that seems pretty clear to me.
