Not my cup of tea, but a solid piece of documentary theatre about coal miners and their loved ones. If you like the music of Steve Earle, that's a bonus, since he wrote and sings a handful of songs.
I found the direction overly fussy, as though Blank felt she needed to be doing something. Lots of moving benches around. The cast is strong.
Unfortunately, it's in the Anspacher Theater at the Public, and as usual, the direction completely ignores people at the far ends of the U shape. I had a decent seat, so it wasn't an issue for me, but the people in, eg, A26, 28, spent a lot of times looking at butts. |
