It had a nice, respectable run and garnered some of the best reviews of Lloyd Webber's career. Aside from all that, it's a fun, light-hearted show which gives kids a chance to shine. I fail to see why they should only cater to their "adult gay audience". There are other fans of theatre.
My gay brother despises musicals and absolutely loved SOR on my recommendation.
