Okay, again, you picked out part of what I said and keep presenting it like it was the whole thought. I didn't say that they should "be targeting" or that they should "only cater to" their adult gay audience, as you claimed in another comment (I guess you think the musicals I mentioned that they did recently, ACL, ITW, Annie, Hairspray, only target gay audiences, since you think that's what I was saying). I didn't even ONLY mention gays as those that may be less interested in buying tickets for this.

(But also if you think programming a major summer staged concert of a broadway musical, based mainly on wide interested and name recognition and don't think that the gay and childless-straight audience is a major factor in who you're selling tickets to, you probably not aware of your market. I'm not saying the show won't please a big audience or sell well, but I do know a lot of gays and childless-straights in their 20s,30s,40s who have no interested in a musical they likely didn't know existed and seems to be mainly a showcase for the kid talent and family appeal, or doing what will be perceived to be a broadway-izing of a cool movie they remember loving from 17 years ago.)

Also, while I know you are speaking for your brother I can't help but react... I don't think it's fair to say that "most" musicals do not have an overt sentimentality, any more than "most" musicals aren't funny or sad - his expose to musicals, besides the two musicals he loved, may have him thinking that but it's so strange to me to dismiss an entire art form, or categorize it a certain way, based on a small sampling. All "most" musicals for sure have is songs sung by characters in context. If you brother loved two musicals, both with quite different points and aims (besides entertainment, laughs, and having characters sing, which all musicals that are comedies have in common), then he most certainly does not hate musicals.
