Audience Rewards thoughts?
Posted by: jaymac 12:27 pm EST 02/20/20

Like myself, I am sure a lot of people here are audience rewards members? I rarely use it despite points accumulated because I feel I could get a better deal elsewhere?
What are your thoughts on this? Is this program worth it?
If I'm paying an extra 84 dollars plus 7500 points? Isn't it like paying full price?

I use my points primarily for the Metropolitan Opera because there are no other discounts for the Met that I am aware of.

I was pleased to find that Today Tix sells Metropolitan Opera tickets at a discount. Just checked, and it appears that most, if not all, of what is currently playing is on sale.

If I’m buying tickets anyway, why not earn points? Then I usually use them for restaurant gift cards. Free meals; what’s not to love? I usually one them for Fireman Group restaurants, which we always enjoy.

Thanks for mentioning this. My friend and I go to the Brooklyn Diner up on 57th Street before Encores! and I just bought 2 gift cards from Audience Rewards to use there!

As the designated ticket buyer for my family, I had accumulated more points than I realized.
I ended up going no a binge and bought three pairs of tickets for shows. Seats were always pretty good (mid to rear orchestra, centerish).

And when i had an issue with my on-line purchase, the customer service was great.

I've also dealt with the customer service for buying tickets (sometimes you cannot get availability on line), and the reps were great.

My only complaint is that the main page will list the shows available...and then when you click through, all the seats have been sold.

After years of accumulating points I finally decided to redeem them for a free ticket. I had about 15,000 points & that got me a free orchestra ticket to West Side Story.

I will say, as I was perusing shows, I found that the offers where you redeem points & still had to pay a "small" fee were not worth it. You might as well just buy a full priced ticket. I would only redeem your points if you have enough for a free ticket. (And they vary by show & by section. 15,000 was one of the higher "costs" but I could have gotten a WSS balcony seat for 8,000. Or some shows have orchestra seats for 7,500 points.)

For what it's worth my seat was great-- center orchestra row O. (The ticket had a $199 price on it.)

I believe that Audience Rewards points are valued at $12.00 per 1000 points.
So, if you pay $84.00 plus 7500 points, that is the equivalent of $174.00. That could be full price, more or less, depending on the show.

However, if you wanted to purchase 7500 points on the AR website, you would have to pay $187.50 for those points.

I have been accumulating points since AR started, and have only rarely cashed in any for tickets.
In each instance, I chose the cheapest "select orchestra" option, and received okay (not great, not terrible) seats, usually half way back and slightly on the side.

It is probably best to look at the points that you earn as a gift, and not as something you paid for.
I enjoy playing Trivia and getting some extra, albeit negligible, additional points.

No, I don't think it's the same. Depends on the show, but if you have a lot of points, you don't pay as much as you would with a purchase.

I took a different route with my points. I'm very particular about choosing seats (aisle only), so redeeming for tickets didn't work. But I recently redeemed some for a $50 gift card to Sardi's, which came within a week after I made the request and there was no charge on top of the points, not even postage. It wasn't an outrageous number of points, either--I don't remember offhand how many, but I felt like it was a good deal.

I'll be using it to cover most of my dinner before I see VIRGINIA WOOLF in April.

If you use points at the concierge level you can choose your seats.

I was unknowingly accumulating points for years and accidentally discovered I had thousands of points. So I went on a theater binge seeing a bunch of shows, many of which I wouldn't have paid to see. It was fun and I liked a few more than I expected. I only went to shows that offered seats for points only. Seats were mostly acceptable. So, since it's free to get a membership, always include the number on your ticket orders. It's like free money.

I've had a similar, positive experience. I've seen 4 shows through Audience Rewards - Come From Away, Prince of Broadway, A Bronx Tale, and SpongeBob. The seats were always really good (for example, Orch K-7 for CFA) and free, except for A Bronx Tale. There, I bought 2 tickets and was a little shy of points, so wound up spending $7.50 for the pair.
