Not so surprising given how much money it must have been losing each week, but still unfortunate. It may not have mattered in the end, but I wonder if the show would have done better if it hadn't been so overhyped before the first performance, which made people give it less slack when it wasn't as perfect as the buzz made it sound.

It will be interesting to see how it does during awards season. There are many aspects worthy of recognition (particularly Stephen Daldry's direction and Lois Smith's performance, IMO). But the early close of an overhyped show leaves a negative feeling in a way that isn't true for a show that just never seemed to get the recognition it deserved (Scottsboro Boys and the Journey's End revival being examples of shows that had bad box office but did well with nominations, if not necessarily actual awards).
