Well, it's no mystery why they chose it. MTC has a long-standing relationship with Laura Linney and producing this play is a way to showcase her and keep her happy to be associated with the company. Next time MTC has a play with a part in it they'd like her do, she will probably say yes.
Institutional theatres try to foster relationships with artists of all sorts...writers, actors, directors, designers...to keep talented people working on their productions and keep audiences coming in the doors. |
