| I enjoyed Mack and Mabel -- but, the script was weak -- the music was good and I really liked the tap number in the 2nd Act -- the Keystone Cops "ballet" was disappointing. How come Chaplin was left out of the script? If you want true enjoyment -- look at this Chaplin-Norman film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZjvEUm29Z0 |

| I assume not. I always thought the role should have been based more on Marie Dressler or someone of her type, an older former vaudevillian who toiled for years in supporting roles in silent movies and became an unlikely star in the Talkies. Someone who could have provided a bigger physical contrast to Mabel and the Bathing Beauties might have filled in the lack of characterization in the book. Mary McCarty would have been perfect casting back in the 1970s. |
