| Saw MOULIN ROUGE again tonight. First time was over the holidays (given a ticket as a gift). Felt the same way both times. While I loved the movie, I felt this was an elaborately-produced, energetically-performed Vegas show. It's pretty much an endless medley of pop songs, constantly interrupting itself to segue into something new. Every segue is greeted with laughter (appreciative, I guess) that takes you right out of the show. The audience gets such a kick out of recognizing the song snippets that you lose the show. It felt like a benefit concert with first-rate performers nodding and winking to the audience. The only time the whole thing worked for me was during the finale medley, which was joyful and fun and not tethered to any plot. Burstein is great; I think he can do anything. Tveit is an engaging stage presence and great performer, but I think he's wasted here (even with all he gets to do....there's just not a character there to play). Oh, for those keeping score, Olivo was out again (like she was the first time I saw it). Standby Ashley Loren has a strong voice and does fine. For what it's worth, the audience seemed to like it a lot both times I saw it. I was hoping for so much more. Tons of picture taking of the set (just made for Instagram)....and ushers frequently had to flash lights at audience members making illegal videos (like the woman next to me, who made several attempts during the finale...) |

| I mean, I thought she was terrible when I saw the show in September, but why is she consistently out of the show? | |

| Between this and the three WSS story leads' absences, it's hard not to draw that conclusion, no matter how ardent their defenders. | |

| And how. Though, in Olivo’s case, the spotty attendance/lousy work ethic thing has been going for a long time. She missed a TON of performances as Anita and it was quite the topic both here and the other board. | |

| According to the other board, Olivo is genuinely sick and has been out for a week. That being said, they also say that she now has a scheduled absence each week, usually Tuesday, and was often out more than that as well before her current illness. The West Side Story issues are also annoying. Pimentel missed quite a few shows during the preview period. I am guessing that she is unable to perform eight times a week for whatever reason but THEN JUST TELL US. |

| It seems to me that anyone in the WSS cast should be easily replaceable by video. (Said only half-jokingly.) | |

| I have about the same opinion as hugoP. But there is that Thursday mat where not much else is playing. I got the cd this week to listen to it and still on fence. It’s enjoyable but if hadestown had a Thursday mat, I’d revisit that show. | |

| On thurs mat. It’s one of the main reasons I haven’t bought a ticket because I have a feeling they miss the thurs mats often. | |
