Keye Luke was such an underrated (and undervalued) actor. He had the great ability to deliver rapid-fire dialogue that was both funny and to the point. He was the perfect foil for Warner Oland's Charlie Chan. Luke had a career that spanned 6 decades in film, TV, and on stage and must have totaled hundreds of appearances. Besides the Charlie Chan and Dr. Gillespie series, he had featured roles in countless prestige films like The Good Earth and Dragon Seed. His appearance in a scene would immediately bring an authenticity to the proceedings that was often lacking because the lead performers were not Asian. Luke's irrepressible performance as Ta's Old World father on the OBC recording of Flower Drum Song is certainly one to be cherished.
