The Original Broadway Cast of Into the Woods was damn near perfect. However, as fine as Kim Crosby was, I preferred the Cinderellas of both Laura Benanti and Jessie Mueller in subsequent productions.
When Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch went into A Little Night Music, many focused on what an improvement Peters was over Catherine Zeta-Jones--and talked a lot about Stritch's difficulty remembering her lines. I had mixed feelings about both Peters and Zeta-Jones, but, apparently, lucked out and saw Stritch on a "good" night. She was fantastic and I actually preferred her to Angela whose take struck me as disappointingly unspecific.
