Freedman directed some of the initial and historically important (and I believe well-respected) productions at the Delacorte in the early 1960s. Does anyone know why he stopped working at the NYSF? Was there a rift with Joseph Papp? Is it detailed in any of the NYSF or Papp histories?

Very curious, as Freedman certainly had a long and highly respected career (if not particularly commercial) in and out of New York.
