BTW I was in ROTC at the time and eventually transitioned into the U.S. Army. I was going to school at the University of Illinois, but I remember catching Lansbury's performance of "If He Walked into My Life" on The Perry Como Show at home with my parents. It probably was broadcast during our Thanksgiving break.
I must have had the Mame cast album LP by that time, but didn't bring it with me to college. Although I had a huge collection of Broadway musical and film soundtracks, I only brought those LPs with me to Champaign/Urbana that I thought would be viewed as butch. So in my dorm room, I had LPs like Paint Your Wagon, Man of La Mancha, Oklahoma!, Taras Bulba, Ben-Hur, Spartacus, etc., but definitely no Funny Girl, Hello, Dolly!, Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the like.
