| I was trying to avoid any bias. (Maybe I didn't.) The problem comes into high relief for the (hopefully) emerging artist, not for Sondheim. Someone who has their first (or second...) recording and hopes to pay their rent off the revenue has a lot less chance of that happening today. But Sondheim makes more money off the streaming of the OBC of WSS than he does from album sales. It takes 200+ track streams to pay what an album sale would pay. If you really want to help an artist, every morning when you wake up, go to spotify, turn the volume all the way down if you want, and play their music. And yes, I know people want musical CDs to collect but to me that is almost a separate market. |
