This past November, I produced and hosted a show called 54 LOVES CAST ALBUMS at Feinstein's/54 Below. Michael Lavine was our musical director/pianist, and the performers were Penny Fuller, Anita Gillette, Martin Vidnovic, Tyler Milliron, Matthew Drinkwater....and Bill Hutton, whom I had met and spoken with at various theater functions over the past few years, and whom I had heard sing not that long ago, so I knew his voice was still very much intact.

Bill sang for us his two big solos from JOSEPH.... His first number, early in the program, was "Close Every Door." We introduced it with an audio clip of Laurie Beechman and Gordon Stanley from the cast album, and then Bill sang the whole song beautifully. He got the first major ovation of the evening, I think partly because the crowd was stunned that he sounded basically the same as he does on the album. And then, to cap the evening, Bill sang "Any Dream Will Do." He started it live with the piano, then we faded in the recording of that song from the cast album at the point where he sings "A flash of drums, a crash of light...." Bill paused and listened to the recording for a few moments, then started singing again along with it at "The colors faded into darkness" and continuing through the end of the song. The ovation at the end was ecstatic :-)

I have an archival video of the show, but none of it has been uploaded to YouTube or anywhere like that. Perhaps someday we'll try to upload at least a little sample of Bill's performances in it, because they were really special.
