Also, Donny Osmond had a big musical comeback in 1989. He had a #2 hit, "Soldier of Love," with a #13 follow up, "Sacred Emotion," and then a #21 hit, "My Love is a Fire," in 1990 from a new album. He started in Joseph just a couple years later, in 1992. So he would have been quite visible in the public eye right before then, in addition to many prior years of visibility, and, box-office-wise, it would have made a lot of sense to cast him.
