| Well, not from day one, when it really was a nice little piece designed for schools. And I thought the first Broadway production kept that spirit, even with the unnecessary prologue and megamix. But what it's become since - a show overstuffed with repeated material to give the illusion that it's a more substantial (and longer) show, etc - that's overkill. It's become a tedious show now. I loved the charm of the original versions. Even though I still feel that "Any Dream Will Do" may be the worst set of lyrics Rice ever came up with. (To me it's still an incomprehensible bit of gobbledygook.) |
