That revival didn't actually run very long on Broadway, only about a year and half, if I remember correctly. Maybe not even that. I think, by the time that Osmond was getting involved, Broadway was either done or winding down and it probably made more sense to have him do the long sit down runs in Toronto and Chicago. In hindsight, I'm sure that RUG was kicking themselves for not getting Osmond for Broadway, since Michael Damian (who?) didn't really set the world on fire. Maybe Osmond wasn't available at the time, but I would guess that a leading role in a major Broadway revival would have trumped any other professional commitments he might have had.

If memory serves, Damian was an actor off a soap, so I imagine that he looked good in the loincloth and could sing and act well enough to pull it off without making much of an impact otherwise. I don't remember anyone talking about him or his performance or really the show generally.
