I think we are in close agreement on the arc of the disease. And I think there will be theatre by the fall, but Broadway is another matter. Producers for most shows have to believe that tourists will return and that there will be a vaccine before there is a recurrence. I'm not sure that can happen. The losses in the spring of 2020 will be by far the most massive ever; I do not think people will bring shows in (or back) until they feel confident that they can make a profit. That may be the spring of 2021 or maybe not until the fall.
As much as I hate to admit it, or see it, I think we will see some staged shows filmed without audiences (or perhaps audiences that, like the actors and crew, have been verified). This too is a part of the world that will never be the same, both contractually and otherwise. |
