The Addams Family is that rare show that seems to have done much better after Broadway than one would have thought during its run. Seussical and Almost, Maine (off-Broadway) are two others with a very healthy post-New York life. What are some others with an unexpected strength in regional/community/school productions?
Unlike Seussical, I doubt many current students know the characters from The Addams Family, but I'm sure their teachers, who are the ones doing the choosing, do. And there are a lot of quirky characters, which are probably fun to play, so the students probably like being in the show.
The article says that The Addams Family did not recoup during its Broadway run, but doesn't say if it ever did. I'm guessing if it eventually recouped, the article would have said that. Does anyone know? |
