"The Addams Family is that rare show that seems to have done much better after Broadway than one would have thought during its run. Seussical and Almost, Maine (off-Broadway) are two others with a very healthy post-New York life. What are some others with an unexpected strength in regional/community/school productions?"

I remember hearing and reading that the tour of CAROLINE, OR CHANGE did very well after the show had quite a short run on Broadway. In the case of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, I wonder how much the far greater success after Broadway had to do with the fact that the show was apparently so radically revised? Of course, there's no way to answer that.
