I caught Massey's streamed concert from 54 Below yesterday and he sounded spectacular (as always). It was particularly fun to hear him sing songs from Broadway shows he's been in, but didn't get to perform. Massey, who's played Fiyero in ''Wicked,'' got to belt Elphaba's ''Defying Gravity.'' And from ''Next to Normal,'' he sang Diana's ''I Miss the Mountains.'' (He also reprised ''I'm Alive,'' his big solo as Gabe, for an electrifying encore.)
I look forward to seeing Massey play Theo in ''Company,'' but I really hope he gets to originate a leading-man role in a new musical someday.
He's got great pipes and sings with such passion. I especially love how he's taken ''On My Own'' from ''Les Miz'' and makes it HIS own. |
