| When I saw MATILDA on Broadway it was very clear what was happening with the School Song the second time they sang it as they were showing the blocks with the corresponding letter as they sang. If I remember, the first time they sang the song there was no reference to the alphabet so the audience was quite unaware of the cleverness of what was being done. But, they then sang it through a second time, and each time they sang a word with a letter sound, they would hold up the block with that letter on it and the spotlight would point it out to make it very obvious that the lyrics were going through the letters of the alphabet. I don't recall the actors forming the letters with their bodies at all. |
