"The Music Man" is almost guaranteed to be postponed by 8 months to a year. Whenever this is over, Sutton Foster needs to film the next season of "Younger" that was supposed to start filming this month and finish shooting this summer right before the Broadway rehearsals start. But even if they're willing to recast and move forward without her, and even if rehearsals for a new Broadway show were definitely cleared to begin in August, my guess is Scott Rudin won't want to be one of the first shows back at a time when both tourism and the attendance of older theatergoers will be very much up in the air. Therefore my suspicion is that the Winter Garden will in fact be available at least until January or February, and possibly longer.
(Also, don't forget that the only reason Beetlejuice originally had to clear out in early June was so they had two months for load-out before The Music Man set was built and loaded in. When is any of that going to happen now?- no one has any idea. I'm not saying it means Beetlejuice will come back - but I think it does mean that just to be safe, The Music Man will be postponed until at least next April and possibly fall 2021.) |
