| The Drama Desk nominations announcement is just about when it comes every year. The Drama Desk, remember, covers Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Broadway, so there are plenty of viable candidates for its awards, even if the last six weeks of the season were eliminated. I suspect that the nominators needed to make judgments on a multitude of shows (unlike the Tonys) while they were still fresh in their minds. It's an impossible situation, of course, but it might just help struggling theater companies that are applying for grants to have a nomination as a feather in their cap--and it might just make a difference in a company's survival? |
