Not a theatre owner, but involved in several closed shows. There are several kinds of business interruption insurance. Many policies specifically exclude pandemics etc as insurable interruptions. One of our shows has a policy that does cover this eventuality - it covers business losses up to a limit - the limit would be, if you were still running, four weeks of operation.
I would not expend a lot of worry about the theatreowners. They are well heeled, and even if theatres are closed for six months, eight months - there are still only 40-41 Broadway theatres, and they will be occupied.
I also imagine that shows that are planning to stay open are having to negotiate payments to the theatres during the closure. It would be interesting to know what those deals look like. |
