No only the Webber/Puccini stuff, but Webber's borrowings (or whatever) from several composers. There are SO MANY examples. The most recent and most obvious one I can think of is that melody in SCHOOL OF ROCK that was immediately recognizable to me, on first hearing, as a melody from CHESS. So obvious that I couldn't quite believe it, especially since CHESS is a work that's likely to be well known by audiences of SCHOOL OF ROCK, much more so than any Puccini opera.
That's why I think Webber so often figures in these discussions -- the number and frequency of the very similar if not identical melodies. |
