| Well, I suppose what really annoys me is the hyperbole. That tenor passage in Fanciulla is not "more or less" The Music of The Night as you first stated - there's only one phrase of the Puccini melody in question. Same with the phrase from the Humming Chorus that wound up in "Bring Him Home" - we're talking one phrase, not the whole thing. And the same with "Why God Why" - after the first phrase it no longer sounds anything like "There's A Small Hotel." But somehow everyone wants to make it seem like they're bigger "steals" then they are. And frankly, if you *really* knew the full tenor "aria", and /or the complete Humming Chorus, you'd agree with me. Most people don't know any more than the parts of the songs they know have been stolen. :-) |
