| I love ''Spring Awakening'' and saw it countless times so it was such a treat to see so many from the original 2006 cast reunited. For his latest podcast, Seth Rudetsky rounded up: Jonathan Groff, John Gallagher, Skylar Astin, Gideon Glick, Lilli Cooper, Brian Charles Johnson, Lauren Pritchard, Phoebe Strole and Remy Zaken. They recalled their wondrous and wild journey from the Atlantic Theater to Broadway and the Tony Awards. Their funniest story had to be the time Jonathan forgot the lyrics to ''Left Behind,'' so he kept singing ''All things'' repeatedly. Because it's a somber song sung at Moritz's graveside, the cast had to file past Jonathan and keep themselves from cracking up as he sang ''All things'' over and over. For the podcast, Skylar beautifully sang and accompanied himself on ''Touch Me'' from the show as his castmates swayed to the music. Skylar then floored me by producing a backstage photo of him, Seth, Jonathan and John Tartaglia from ''The Leading Men III,'' our Broadway Cares benefit concert back in 2008. Since then, it's been so fun to watch Skylar's career in movies and TV: from ''Pitch Perfect'' to ''Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'' (where he did a terrific Springsteen parody, ''I Hate Everything But You'') to ''Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist'' (which returns April 19 on NBC). I'd love to see the original ''Spring Awakening'' cast do a reunion concert, maybe for the 20th anniversary. Meantime, I believe, I believe ... |
