If the NY Times article is accurate, the musicians' union president is extremely short-sighted. It sounds like Broadway Cares appropriately did not want to label any funds as going to the involved musicians when the involved actors weren't getting payments, and instead offered to give a sum more than the requested amount to a musicians' emergency fund. If the administrators of that fund wanted to give that money to the involved musicians, who was going to stop them? But, instead, no one gets anything, including all the beneficiaries of the money that could have been raised by the concert.
The article says that Disney Theatricals has raised almost $20 million for Broadway Cares over the past 25 years. I think that is more than just Disney efforts for Gypsy of the Year/Red Bucket Follies/Easter Bonnet would have generated. Besides this concert, has Disney done other efforts to contribute to Broadway Cares? |
