I saw so many of the greats: Richard Kiley (inspirational)in LaMancha; Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl (electric, though people say she had off nights); Julie Andrews in Camelot (the most beautiful girl in the world); Georgia Brown in Oliver; Barbara Harris in Clear Day and Apple Tree; James Earl Jones et al in The Great White Hope; Burton in Hamlet; Menzel, Chenoweth, and Butz in Wicked; Streep’s Arkadina; Collins and Smith in Follies; Sternhagen and Aldredge in On Golden Pond; Alec McCowen in Misanthrope and Hadrian VII; Gielgud in Forty Years On in London.
I have no complaints...but...
I wish I had seen Zoe Caldwell in Master Class, Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz, Helen Gallagher in No, No, Nanette, and, had I been around, Laurette Taylor in The Glass Menagerie, Mary Martin in South Pacific, Gielgud in Hamlet, Channing in Dolly (I saw Rogers, Bailey, and Murphy, and didn’t really get it), and Uta Hagen in that Seagull with the Lunts. Oh yes. And Henry Irving and Ellen Terry on an American tour with the Lyceum company.
