| APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR THE DRAMA LEAGUE DIRECTORS EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND New York, NY (April 13, 2020) – The Drama League (Artistic Director, Gabriel Stelian-Shanks / Executive Director, Bevin Ross) announces that applications for the Directors Emergency Relief Fund (DERF) are open and available to all stage directors. Eligibility requirements and application materials can be found at http://www.dramaleague.org/directorsfund. Designed to support stage directors who have suffered economic loss in this time, DERF will provide rapid emergency grants of up to $599 for stage directors who have lost wages from canceled and/or postponed theatrical productions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The Drama League is a year-round, life-long home for stage directors, and for audiences who care about their work,” said Shanks. “To us, we interpret ‘home’ as a place they can find respite, support, shelter, and care. Providing these essential services is a task our staff and board are eager to provide to the community as we face and conquer this pandemic. We look forward to helping directors through this time, and to the moment when curtains rise again on America’s stages.” DERF is the fourth initiative The Drama League has launched in the last two weeks to respond to COVID-19, including a national economic impact survey for directors, a comprehensive COVID-19 resource center, and two new digital series featuring renowned international theatremakers, “In Conversation” and “#Collaboration.” All of these initiatives, as well as The Drama League’s ongoing programs for artists and audiences, can be found at http://www.dramaleague.org. The Directors Emergency Relief Fund has been generously supported by the Howard Gilman Foundation, Alumni of the Drama League Directors Project, Drama League Members, and donors to the organization's Ghost Light Campaign.
