This way of thinking is unfortunately common. I remember when my former employer faced laying off staff and an employee wondered aloud in a meeting why the administrative staff wasn't let go first, since they were the "backside" of the agency. One secretary piped in with the ad lib of the day: "You mean backBONE."
I would imagine between handling the volume of ticket refunds/cancellations/reschedulings and the related calls and emails from the public, terminating or renegotiating contracts, increasing fundraising efforts, increasing and publicizing online presence and activities, as well as the usual requirements of any business, theater administrative staff are not twiddling their thumbs on the job. |
