Great thread idea.
I remember LOVING a late preview of DRS, and feeling certain it would become the next hit comedy. Then Brantley savaged it and heaped unending praise on Spamalot (which I happened to find quite underwhelming).
The interesting part is the NYT came back to re-review once Pryce replaced Lithgow and raved, despite it being the same show otherwise. I think he must have just been in a bad mood that first day.
The silver lining of it not becoming a huge hit is that I was able to go back a few times for a reasonable price, and I enjoyed it very much. But I did always think it deserved more than it got. |
