| Chazwaza, I think there's a mixup. ''American Psycho'' was eligible for the 2006 Tony Awards, and you're describing the 2014 Tony Awards. As for the 2006 Tony Awards, most everything was overshadowed that year by a little show called ''Hamilton.'' The other Best Musical nominees in its wake were ''Bright Star,'' ''School of Rock,'' ''Shuffle Along'' and ''Waitress.'' And because the nominators favored those shows over ''American Psycho,'' there was a domino effect, so it got shut out of most categories, except Scenic Design and Lighting. As for Best Actor in a Musical, two of the slots were taken by Leslie Odom and Lin-Manuel MIranda (''Hamilton''), and the others went to Zachary Levi (''She Loves Me''), Alex Brightman (''School of Rock'') and Danny Burstein (''Fiddler on the Roof''). All choices are subjective, but I easily would've picked Walker over Burstein. I often think Tony nominators find it easier to nominate names they know. ''Fiddler'' was Burstein's 6th Tony nomination. Walker was Tony-eligible for ''Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,'' too, but the 2011 Tony Awards were dominated by another little show: ''The Book of Mormon.'' As in ''American Psycho,'' Walker was the leading man of a short-lived musical, and they're often forgotten at awards time. The Tonys finally recognized Walker last year with a Featured Actor in a Play nomination for ''All My Sons.'' But I'd love to see him star in another Broadway musical. |
