There were also several lines between Agnes and Acacia that seemed to be direct quotes from The Song of Bernadette spoofing Jennifer Jones and Gladys Cooper.
Busch did some devastatingly spot on channeling of both Rosalind Russell (in The Trouble with Angels) and Ingrid Bergman (in The Bells of St. Mary's), especially in the scene where Timothy expresses his gay crush on the boy who is bullying him. There are a bunch of old movies from the 40's and 50's that contain scenes with a gay subtext, although I never recognized it in the '45 version of The Bells of St. Mary's until I saw The Divine Sister on stage. |
