I know what you mean about that one actor in TWP. In a cast of stars making every moment indelible, here was a more-or-less unknown actor just not making much of an impression in a role that should be one of the four leads in the story. His arrival at the party is the catalyst for everything that follows between Burrs and Queenie. I mean, it's always going to be hard to get noticed on a stage with Toni Colette, Mandy Patinkin, Eartha Kitt, Marc Kudisch, Norm Lewis, and Tonya Pinkins, but all the other less well known cast members managed it and had their moments.
Also? Taye Diggs was amazing in the same role in the Lippa version. I know it's not fair to compare, but it's the difference between a star and a workaday actor. The actor you're referring to just threw the balance off and the story-telling was weaker for it. |
