| Herbie at one point was envisioned having more singing -- I don't know if it was ever actually performed during previews, but the song "Nice She Ain't" was recorded on one of the "Lost in Boston" -type recordings. Klugman and Merman hit it off quite well. I seem to recall Merman calling Klugman her favorite singing partner. Of course, he wasn't really any competition to her in that regard, though she could be reasonably friendly to comparable real singers like Mary Martin with whom she famously duetted. |
