I second the idea that as soon as I heard I thought of Deirdre and came right here. My words of wisdom at a time like this? I lost my my only sibling, a sister, when I was three. I lost my mom when I was four. They would, arguably, have been my two closest relationships throughout my life, and yet I have no memories of them whatsoever. Once you pass through the stages of grief, hopefully you will have years of memories to comfort you. Anecdotally, I've observed that the first round of birthdays, Father's Day, Christmas, etc., will be difficult, but after that it will "Remember when Dad did/said...?" followed by smiles and laughter.
For the record, your dad was a damned fine actor.
