| Mermie, she didn't remind me of Merman in terms of voice or appearance, but in the way about 45 minutes into a show with 2 fully-established male leads, she pretty much took the stage as an equal to them with that one song, "Here I Am", and David Yazbek provided a really good one for her to do it. Only Gwen Verdon in "Damn Yankees" really does that, and she was billed alone over the title. Audiences back then must have been wondering where the hell she was! :) |
