| I also really enjoyed this unique and interesting show. It wasn't anywhere near the level of writing they gave us in Grey Gardens, but sadly nothing else they've written has come close. This is the best of their scores and shows since. Anyway, I really like so much of the show, and Ebersole and LuPone were absolutely incredible. And unlike many, I really appreciated that they did not have scene together until the very last scene. But they could probably have used more songs where they share the song but not because they are in a scene together in that moment (you know, like "Tonight Quartet" or the Sweeney quartet, or "One Day More" or any number of songs in musicals... it's one of the things musicals can utilize brilliantly that most other formats can't). |
