Wikipedia says the reviews were mixed, and Ben Brantley in the N.Y. Times called it one of Broadway's ''all-time most forgettable musicals.''

I couldn't disagree more. I saw ''High Fidelity'' several times because I loved Amanda Green's witty lyrics and Tom Kitt's rockin' music.

The show got a celebrated revival in 2008 at the New Line Theatre in St. Louis, and its artistic director, Scott Miller, championed it.

Miller wrote a very extensive essay, arguing that the critics, like Brantley, and even the show's director misjudged its many merits.

Refuge Theatre in Chicago did an excellent production of High Fidelity in 2017. The show received across-the-board positive to rave reviews from all the local critics including a very strong review from the all important Chicago Tribune.
