It could be that this musical has never meant much in a city where the JM Barrie source play of Peter Pan is endlessly reinvented, reclaimed and revived -- and is so much more interesting a piece than the musical, sweet tho' it was - and is.

I'm wondering why we've seen so little of this delightful actress over the past couple of decades, except for a few minor (and one major) appearance on "Law & Order"....at least as far as I know.

She was awfully swell playing opposite her husband Don Correia in MY ONE AND ONLY.

(I still love that show although it seems to be mostly forgotten.)

Sandy Duncan was a brilliant Roxie in the CHICAGO revival back at a time when the show was still a hot ticket and people really took notice of who was in the show at any given time. I used to see the show a lot and Duncan was the best Roxie I saw. She was...it.

I was wondering if the raves she got at the time would spark a revival of her career, but she seemed to disappear again almost as quickly as she appeared. There was a brief appearance as a replacement in FINDING NEVERLAND and there were workshops of an EASTER PARADE adaptation with her in the Garland role, but nothing ever happened there.

Maybe her personal life makes it difficult for her to put herself out there for work. Or maybe she doesn't need money and has priorities elsewhere.

Whatever the reason, I agree with you that it would be so nice to see more of her.

I saw her in "South Pacific" at Long Beach Civic Light Opera in 1994, and she was an exceptional Nellie Forbush.

One of my favorite theatre experiences was the production of VANITIES at the Mark Taper Forum in L.A. Sandy Duncan, Stockard Channing, and Lucie Arnaz. Nirvana!

I was at the first preview of that and it was crazy great! They put extra chairs out for the overflow, and what a extraordinary evening that was! I don't think I ever saw a better cast in that show and I saw it several times during its extended run in L.A. (Although there is no denying the greatness of Kathy Bates in that role.) Also did see Duncan in South Pacific, My One and Only (tour) and Chicago, she is always a delight. There's a lot of great footage from various My One and Only performances on the Youtube.

I'm just guessing, but I think maybe she decided to give priority to raising her children during the 20 years or so that might have been really great years for her career. Parents in showbiz make different decisions as to how much they can/should work while raising kids; I believe Patti LuPone is a major example of someone who, for that reason, didn't work much for years. I believe Sandy was in two Encores! shows during her child-rearing years, and those are exactly the sort of projects one can do without giving a big chunk of one's life over to them, so I'm guessing that's why that happened.

Totally agree-she was the BEST Roxie I ever saw and her Peter Pan ties with Me And My Girl as the happiest times I ever spent in 55 years of going to the theater! An astounding talent! Wish we could see more of her-she was still dancing brilliantly in No,No Nanette a few years ago at City Center. Hope she knows how much her fans love her!

Her Peter Pan was one of the greatest and most exciting live performances I have ever seen. And I had a friend drag me to the show because I couldn't imagine anyone but Mary Martin the role.
