An unfortunate but inevitable decision. The first show was supposed to start May 19, so rehearsals must have been imminent.
The linked NY Times article about the Public is very interesting. They are paying the artists for the run of any canceled show. Most of the staff is furloughed from May until Aug 31, but they will still get health benefits for the rest of the year and are getting paid for all of March and April. Eustis was hospitalized in March for what he believes was the coronavirus. He's taken a 40% pay cut.
There is a new Apple Family play to be presented for free on Apr 29 about the pandemic, with the Apple family on a Zoom call. I'm very intrigued. |
